how to import a classic car from australia to US…and how much would it cost?

looking to import a 1960’s classic Italian sports car from a dealer in australia to Caliornia. Can someone illuminate me on the legal process (DOT?) and what costs I can expect to incur (shipping, duty, taxes, etc…)?

I would have to get quoted from several freight forwarders like Panalpina. They are found at every port and major airports. I have heard that from Australia it takes a long time to get the car into the US.
